It's some time ago that Larry at church recommended Linhope Spout as a good walk, so when a walk with Kay was planned for Friday and she suggested the Ingram Valley, which includes Linhope Spout, I thought it was time to go for it.
First we visited the Ingram Visitor Centre . It is well worth a visit particularly if you are into archeology and the many ancient sites scattered around this area. We sat and ate pour sandwiches as we watched the video about the area. Not sure if it was really allowed, but no-one told us to stop! We didn't leave crumbs, honest.
Then we parked a little way up the road and started out to Linhope spout. It was further than either of us thought ... I would say about 3.5 miles. Easy walking up a road, but the road seemed to go on for ever.
We went through the little hamlet of Linhope, very pretty. Just a group of half a dozen cottages and farms around a stream. They looked beautiful, but so very isolated. Although I like the thought of living somewhere so quiet with a stream at the bottom of the lovely cottage garden, in reality I don't think I would like it really.
This was about a mile from the actual waterfall. We passed groups of young people with damp hair carrying bags with wet towels and realised that we had narrowly missed seeing the sport of jumping off the rocks into the pool at the bottom of the waterfall. Not sure whether I was glad or sorry, but clearly they'd enjoyed it anyway.
It's a very beautiful place. We saw it at a good time, after plenty of rain so a good amount of water coming down.
So all in all it was a good afternoon. I was a bit achy when I got back last night, but most of that seems to have gone this morning. Thanks, Kay, for suggesting such a good walk. This time we could see where we were going too!!
