As Jean Louis kindly carried our amp downstairs, I hurried to catch him up to open the car so he could put in it. In my haste I tripped and experienced that horrible moment when one realises that a bad is going to happen and there is nothing that can be done to prevent it. I fell over my own feet and tumbled down the stairs, It's quite a long flight of stairs with lots of hard bits. It happened quite quickly and before I really knew what was happening I was crashing into poor Jean-Louis legs as he reached the bottom of the steps with the amp. I'm told that had he not stopped the fall I would have achieved a full somersault.
Fortunately our church family includes several members of the medical profession so I was well cared for. Of course, I said I was fine and that nothing was broken, but was persuaded to sit on a chair for a while while the Community Centre management panicked about filling in an accident form. At some point during my little sit down I flaked out and found myself lying on the floor with Dr Joss taking my pulse and Nurse Christine holding my legs in the air. A rather worried Andy looked on.
After a while I was fine if a little shaken and as the adrenalin dissipated so the aches from the bumps took over. The arm was the fiercest pain and once we got home and looked we weren't surprised. I sported a rather sensational lump, quickly discolouring and very tender.
Now a day on I have found quite a few other bruises and feel quite stiff and sore. The best looking bruise is of course on my bum. It's getting to be quite a habit!
I'm not one to make a fuss, but being honest it took rather more out of me than I was prepared to admit at the time. I have needed the day off work I took today and am slightly concerned about going back tomorrow, though I'm sure I'll cope fine.
Thanks for all the help and prayers at the time, the concern expressed and care shown. I'll try not to do it again.
