House guest

This week we have not only had human visitors, but also a canine friend in the form of Laddie, Rebecca and Ian's dog.
He's been the model of good behaviour.

He arrived looking very cute.

However, gradually his personal hygiene came into question and we decided that he needed a little whitening.

He was very well behaved in the bath, though to say he enjoyed the experience would be to misrepresent his actual feelings. After a quick toweling and a great deal of shaking, he was finally allowed to leave the room.

Some hours and a couple of handfuls of fur later we ended up with a far sweeter smelling dog who has decided he still wants to be friends.

What I do to people who help me

Ruth was busy unpacking a box when disaster struck. The box had already caused injury when I'd forgotten it contained knives and discovered I was leaving a trail of blood shortly after delving in it. They are very sharp knives. I'd sensibly marked the box, complete with bloodstain. When we started unpacking it, I even took the offending knives out of the box so no-one else would cut themselves so I was very surprised when I heard a screech from Ruth, followed by agitated bodily movements suggesting she was in an amount of pain.

The reason became clear as we watched the blood welling from her knuckle and saw the vicious blade of the food blender lurking at the bottom of the box.

Louise sprang into action as designated first aider and applied a temporary dressing made up of very ancient, though well protected, gauze and some very strange sticking tape.

The next day we picked up more suitable dressing from Asda and Louise once more displayed her first aid skills.

Moving house

I even have room for a friend to sit and chat in the new place!

So .... here we are in our new home. Already it feels more like home than the other house ever did. It's bigger, pleasanter and just feels more friendly. It seems longer than a few days that we have been here and I suppose we have achieved a lot, but I am impatient to get everything ship shape and tidy. We've spent quite a lot of money making things as we want them. Firstly painting everything either cream or white, it makes a nice plain background for whatever we wish to add and beats the green and pink which predominated before. We have just about all our stuff here. There are a few oddments still in the old place which need to be picked up. At least everything is out of storage, though the boxes are stacked into all the little store places and awaiting unpacking.

Here some rooms are pretty much sorted out. The kitchen was until I brought some more from the old house tonight and messed it all up again. The bedroom is OK as are the bathrooms. My study is all sorted and it provides a welcome haven from the mess in the lounge. The spare bedroom will have to be sorted very soon as we are to welcome our first guests this weekend. Ruth and Louise are coming to visit and I am looking forward to showing off our new home.

We have a kitchen that we need to walk around, so big that we have bought a new round table and 4 chairs to go in it. There were three easy chairs and a settee when we moved in, not exactly our choice, but better than the old one which was getting rather worn out. Andy has been busy buying things to get his shack up and running and until he achieves this the lounge cannot be sorted out. So, with a house warming planned for the beginning of November, things will continue to be sorted and straightened.

We owe big thank yous to many of our friends for fetching and carrying, unpacking, making , fixing and mending and being generally helpful. Without you all we would not be as organised as we are.

So ... we look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it on November 3rd ..... 2pm onwards.

Shopping

Today we went shopping. We went to Comet. We looked at dishwashers and ceramic hobs. They had a few, but none were in stock. We ordered a hob which they said would arrive on Tuesday. It cost £199. There were no dishwashers until October 15th. We were disappointed.

We next went to Currys. The shop looked as if it was closed, but a sign proclaimed it open. They are enlarging the store and doing building things. We looked at dishwashers and ceramic hobs. We found a dishwasher, slightly damaged ... the top, which will be hidden from view, was scratched. It was still guaranteed for 12 months. It was reduced from £329 to £229 and we got it for £200. They put it in our car. We then found a hob. It was in stock and it cost £149. We bought that too and put it in the car.

We went back to Comet and told them they were roobash at having things in stock and got our money back. They were very understanding about it and agreed with us.

We have a new ceramic hob and a slimline dishwasher at our new house. A dishwasher do you hear!!!!!

Wake up, Liz!

On my way to work this morning I stopped off at the Post Office to post a letter. As I got out of the car, I noticed a man, walking across the road laughing at me. I checked myself over ..... was I dressed properly? ...... all seemed to be in order.

He must have noticed my confusion because he smiled at me and said, " Mind, you've got a cup on your roof."

I'd driven down to the Post Office with my insulated mug, full of tea on the roof. Fortunately the road surface is smooth and I wasn't going too fast so I was still able to enjoy my cuppa on the way to work.
