In my class we are learning about patterns and different materials. Some of the stories we read are about Elmer, the multi-coloured elephant. We're going to make him from squares of coloured paper so he looks pretty much like this. We'll colour him in and make some of his friends with different patterns. My classroom helper has even made a patchwork Elmer.
I have been asking the children to bring in empty, plastic milk bottles for the last few weeks. They've no idea why, but we now have quite a collection of sizes from little 1 litre ones to big 6 litres. This is what we are going to make with them. The children can then decorate them with their own patterns.
Can I come to that class, please miss?

I wish I was in your class... and that my legs still fitted under those teeny tables...and that my bum would fit on one of those teeny chairs :-)
Great elephant idea, Miss.
When you've done with that - try turning one of those bottles upside down - and voila - an Easter Island head - fill em with plaster - easy as - falling off an elephant.
Further empty milk bottle ideas to Liz, please. It's so much more fulfilling than throwing them away.
