Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to begin by wishing everyone a very happy new year!
I apologise for the length of this letter, but it concerns the health and safety of your children.
Charity fundraising
Your kindness and generosity last term has raised a fantastic £1200 to help Amber! Heartfelt thanks to you all for giving your time and money to help her.
The collections at the Nativity Plays have raised £166.79 for Children in Need. Again, thank you for your generous donations.
Start of the school day
The start of school this morning was unusually chaotic for a number of reasons! Class 2 was out of use today because a new carpet has been fitted. This created congestion around Class 1 because of the number of children who needed to pass through that room. Also, Class 5 were unclear about their new routine.
From tomorrow I hope to restore some order and establish a routine.
Classes 1, 2 and 3 should line up as usual when the bell rings at 8.55a.m. Class 3 will be collected and taken to their room through Class 1.
Class 5 (Miss Edwards’ class) also need to line up in the playground. They will be collected by Miss Edwards or Mrs Thornton and taken to their classroom through Class 2.
Children in Class 6 (Mrs Marshall’s class) and in Nursery should wait by their classroom doors with their adults until staff open the classroom door for the start of school.
If there are any important messages for the teachers of Classes 1, 2, 3 or 5 in the mornings, please can you either jot them down and give them to your child or have a word with me and I will pass any messages on. This will relieve the congestion around the doorways and cloakrooms at the start of school and allow teachers to make a more orderly start to the day in their classrooms. We do not want to prevent you from talking to the staff, but at the start of the day they need to give their full attention to the children. You are always welcome to call in at the end of the day to talk to the teachers, when they can give you their full attention.
I have been told that work will begin next week on insulating and re-roofing the Nursery classroom. When this work is complete Nursery can move back into their proper room and Class 5 will move across into the room Nursery are using at present, so that all the Nursery and Reception children are together in the Early Years Unit as we originally intended. When Class 5 have re-located, their parents and carers will be welcome to bring their children into school at the start of the day as they did last term. The position of their current room prevents this.
End of the school day
If your child is in Class 1, 2, 3 or 5 please will you meet your child in the playground and not wait by the classroom doors. Again, this is to ease congestion around the doorways.
Class 3 will come out of school through Class 1 and Class 5 will come out of school through Class 2. Staff will wait with children on the top path by the school building. Once your child has seen their adult they will tell a member of staff and come down into the playground. We will retain the routine of waiting on the top path after Class 5 move to their proper classroom as it will ease congestion around the Early Years doorways and introduce a little more independence.
If you are collecting a child in Class 6 or Nursery, please wait near the classroom door until your child comes out to you.
Once you have collected your child please can you move away from the door to make space for others.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
