Fasching in Hamburg

DSCN7485.jpg

On shrove Tuesday we celebrate “Fasching“ in Hamburg and so at Iserbarg school. The real “German Carneval“ is not a tradition in northern Germany but the children like this one day when they can dress up in funny costumes for some hours.

We show you some pictures of class 1a. We eat really good, dance (sometimes on newspapers, that get smaller every time the music stops) and play funny games like “The journey to Jerusalem“.

Here are the game rules:You need one chair less than children. Place them in two rows back to back. While the music plays everybody walks around the chairs. When the music stops you must sit on a chair. The person without a chair is out! Then you take one chair out of game – and so on. At the end you have one winner!

March birch trees

Birchtreesmarch
Our Birch tree observations for March.

Five Pupils from Hamburg visited Strengelvag skole in March for one week

In March five very brave pupils from Hamburg travelled far to the North to visit the partner school in Strengelvag without their parents. It was a long journey of one day with two flights and two different busses from the airport to Strengelvag.

When we arrived all host families gave us a very warm welcome with pizza at the school.
We enjoyed an interesting programme during our stay with visits of a fish factory in Sto and a farm, a trip with a dog sledge, skiing near the school and fish barbecue at the beach, time to play, to dance and to eat together. There were a lot of things to learn: about fish (especially the cod) and fishing with longlines, about life on the Vesteralen Islands (meals and spending the freetime) and of course about the school, the teaching and social life. We were surprised that the school is a real meeting place where a lot of pupils like to play. That is very much different to our school. A lot of things are almost the same as in Hamburg: the rules, the games … What people like is similar in Strengelvag and Hamburg although Strengelvag is very, very small compared to Hamburg. There are no street names and house numbers in Strengelvag!
We were lucky to have really much snow the first days and even sunshine, only one day it rained…
At the end we felt like “stars” because there was a big article in the newspaper about our visit, a whole page with a lot of photos and even one photo on the front page!

It was a great and wonderful experience! Thank you so much everyone in Strengelvag!

Spring in Hamburg

Two weeks ago spring arrived in Hamburg - as you can see on the photos. The birch tree has big buds, the forsythia is blooming as well as the daffodils and tulips. Vilko from Bratislava found a nice place in our garden for enjoying the sun. We were happy to see one of the rabbits that live in front of our classrooms outside on the grass.

Spring3Spring4Spring1

On Thursday before Easter class 4a prepared an Easter breakfast and invited class 1b to eat it together. Both classes are involved in the COMENIUS project. Home-made rolls and curd cheese with herbs, eggs, bacon, cucumbers, carrots and “nugatti” from Norway were served and made it a big meal. On the next Tuesday the young children hid chocolate animals for the others to say thank you. Actually this weekend (in the middle of April) we have temperatures like in summer. Everyone is in a good mood!
